model 14 valuation

Post by elmbow »

Hi folks. I posted here last year when I picked up my first ever mod 14, in cal. 32 Rem. I have become a huge fan and have been on the lookout for another. Today in the gun store I found it.
A mod 14 in 35 Rem in approx 90% condition. The wood is dark but otherwise in good shape. A Marbles gold bead front post, a Lyman 38 rear, so left side of receiver has been tapped. Rear sight is a fold down notch in front dovetail so I'm assuming it is not stock. Metal is in excellent shape, no rust, good bluing throughout. The wood is checkered on forearm and wrist but no other embellishments. I'm guessing it is a C grade rifle???
My buddy owns the store and will do right by me and I want to pay fair market price to him as well. We looked in his gun values book, and while it lists the various grades, it does not offer values.
I gave $300 for my mod 14 32 last year in very good condition and felt that was close to its retail. So my question is: what is this one worth?
Note: production stamp is CZ3
