Lots of folks that know more than I do are around here but here is my 2 cents worth.
1] Mr. George layman & Mr. Roy Marcot have written books on these old rifles. If you are really interested in Remington system rifles they are invaluable reference.
2] for what it is worth. since the barrel bands have screws instead of springs in the foerearm & the breech block is smooth instead if "dished out" (my term not the accurate one) it appears that your rifle was made after 1871. from the bullet diameter it possibly could be .43 Spanish, but it could be .43 Egyption . Best way to find out is a chamber cast. since it has been re-done the chamber could have been modified also.
I say this because I found an 1879 Argentine model that the chamber & bore are nothing that Remington ever made the Argentine in. Who ever refinished it did some extra work.
Hopefully one of the really smart crowd will chime in & help out & possibly correct me.
Have fun.

Your rifle was PROBABLY chambered for the 11mm Spanish (.43 Spanish). The front sight/band is not original to the rifle so it is possible that the barrel has been replaced. It has been heavily refinished. As was stated, the ONLY way you can accurately tell what cartridge it is chambered for is to make a chamber cast and take measurements from that. The numbers on the sides of the tangs are assembly numbers. Remington military Rolling Blocks did not have serial #s with the exception of the early 7mm Mexican contract.

Since your rifle has been refinished AND the barrel at least shortened and front sight changed, it has value as a potential shooter but not a collectable.
