odd rifle identification
I have been offered a rifle that I have no knowledge of. It is a very heavy octagon barreled side hammer percussion rifle. It is 52 caliber, is rifled, has a false muzzle attatchment, and very dark wood, like an exotic walnut or something. The rear site is a long range Vernier with a very large front Vernier type front site. The buttstock has a Schuetzen Swiss style brass extension. It appears to be pre Civil War, i guess it just looks like it. The barrel is stamped on the right side with REMINGTON CAST STEEL. The maker's stamp on the barrel top and across the hammer is E.S.Johnson. It has no forearm wood, (never did). The pistol grip style stock reminds me of early Maynards or Hopkins etc. It appears all original, no extra holes slots etc. I am trying to figure out how to post photos. Thanks Sharps50-140
