Of course. This isn't an unusual situation and definitely not "rare". The "standard frame" shotguns of that era were used for 12, 16 and 20 gauge guns. It was just some of the internal and external parts that had slightly different dimensions.Andrew99 wrote:First off let me start by saying thank you all for the wealth of knowledge on this board. I have learned more about Remington firearms in the last 2 days then I have my whole life. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading.
I bought an 870 Wingmaster in 16ga yesterday. Gun is in very nice shape, and I love it. I was curious about the manf. date though. I believe I have correctly dated the barrel to December of 1972. I called Remington today, and gave them the serial number off of the receiver. They told me the receiver was dated 1973. They could not provide a month. Is it possible the barrel was made in late December of 1972, and the receiver early January 1973? It looks to be the original barrel. If this is the case is there any rarity to it? I will include a picture of the barrel codes on the left side of the barrel. I believe the date codes to be X W. If anyone could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.
