Has anyone used the hornady flex tip 165 gr. bullet in the 30mremington? I was wondering if anyone has and have any loading data for it. It is supposed to work in 30-30 tubular fed gun well. I have a model 14 in 30 remington and was reading up on that bullet. Any help will be appreceated. Thanks

Hornady flex tip bullets
Re: Hornady flex tip bullets
How can I say this and sound diplomatic............you "read up" on this bullet but failed to note they were designed for "lever guns". Sorry about that but when it comes to Model 14's I have a sarcastic side to me in that NOTHING but round nose ammunition will function properly and OACL is critical. Spitzer, Spire Point, RNFP, and any other variation will not function in the unique feed system of the Model 14.
If you want to load them single shot I'm sure they will work like a champ but we all need to remember these guns were designed in 1909 for use with a very specifc cartridge. I have spent hundreds of hours just this past year correcting/repairing Model 14's where someone used something other than round nose ammunition resulting in a "jam" they were unable to clear.
There was a recent submission on "The Forum" where a chap had his Model 14 "jammed up" using some light weight pointed bullet and he didn't care to listen to my advice or that of the individual who I feel is the world authority. His last response in the forum was "I don't care what caused it, I just want to know how to fix it". My efforts here are to discourage you from any attempt to use this bullet in a Model 14 or Model 141.
Best regards!
Jim

Sorry you took offense. I mean that seriously...
I think Nambujim did answer your question when he said to use only round nose ammo. If he knows how to take them apart and fix them we should probably listen to him...

I think that sums it up pretty good. Jim is the resident "expert" on these matters, and has seen more than most of us combined, probably. Most certainly the inside of them.
I would stick to standard stuff in the 14 and 141. The model 8 or other, more conventional loading guns would be one to experiment with this bullet.

Re: Hornady flex tip bullets
I have no more urge to try the flex tips. I have been convinced. I am sorry to have disapointed anyone here. I just wanted some input. Thanks for the info. I will stick to normal loads that I can do with the dies and info I have!!!
