Hello Brad,
From the photo the rifle looks like a rolling block 1870 Army Trials Rifle or the Model 1872 Army Rifle. Both rifles were made by the Springfield Armory and were chambered in 50-70. Springfield made approximately 1,000 of the 1870 Army Trials Rifles and 10,000 of the 1872 Army Rifles.
