I have what I believe to be a Remington Rolling Block rifle. The only engraving is on the bands and on the stock of the rifle. On the bands is engraved a "U". On the stock is the following:
"E. Remington and Sons Ilion NY USA
Pat May 30 1864 May 7 June 11 Nov 12 Dec 24 1872
Dec 31 1872 Sep 9 1873 Jan 12 March 18"
Can anyone tell me anything about this gun and what it is worth?
Thanks.
Remington Rolling Block??
More info needed
To determine what rifle model it may be, more info is needed. What is the caliber and barrel length (muzzle to the end of the chamber)? Is the rear sling swivel on the trigger guard or on a separate piece in the buttstock. What is the last year stamped on the patent marking (it should not end with just a month and day).
Re: Remington Rolling Block??
All the "U" on the barrel band signifies is "up", the open end of the U points towards the muzzle. The bands are tapered to fit in one direction.
