hi! i have a remington 22 hex barrel center fire pump rifle that i had sent off to be reblued by dux tres gunshop in cal, and they sent back a letter stating that this rifle was once owned by annie oakley! could that be possible? my father had it first and gave it to me as a child (many moons ago). i thought i had seen at one time that the family had all but one of her rifles, and i'm wondering how i could find out or get ahold of them.
is there anything that i should look for to see if this is truely once owned by her?
22 cal hexbarrel rifle/annie oakley?

Sounds like you have a Remington model 12 C 22 rifle. Annie was known to have used this model and there has been at least one identified to her. She demonstration shot for Remington for a while. I would first go back to the dealer who told you the info and ask what was his source. Was he telling you that Annie used this kind of gun or was he saying she actually owned your gun? You might also check with the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody Wy. They have more info on Annie than anyone and are always looking to identify her guns. Ask for Dr. Fees and tell him I sent you. Don't do this however until you have contacted the dealer that gave you the info. Let me know how it works out. I am a fan of Annie and would appreciate knowing the results. thanks for your response! we have been trying to locate dux tres gunshop again, but sofar it looks like it either moved, or since isnt in operation anymore and all this happened about 35 yrs ago or so. all i know is that they had said she owned the gun, they wanted to buy it from me and i turned them down.
we are going to go after the rifle in a couple months and bring it back here where we live. do you know if there is anything special i should look for? i would like to sound intelligent and have the info that dr.Fees might ask for.
we will be flying and i'm wondering how i might bring it thru baggage without breaking it down. any ideas? i do know i will need to declaire it which i have no problem, but just wondering if i will need to break it down. i'm not sure i'd get it back together. i also know i will need to check with the airline and there policy.
i will keep you updated on what we find out about the gun. i'm hoping that the letter is still in existance since the person that has it for me may have tossed it not thinking that i is important. you know how mom's can be!
thanks again!

If it is a model 12 it will break down by unscrewing the take down screw, It is simple. You will need an airline metal or plastic shipping container to take on the airline . You will have to declare it and ship as baggage. Where do you live? Where is the Gun? I hope it wasn't re blued since it will decrease the value. The serial number will be important. Good luck and keep me informed. Jay

hi! i THINK it may have been reblued 35 plus yrs ago because it had been taken to hawaii with my father. i know it hasnt been since. i dont know what the value of it could or would have been, all i know is that dux tres gunshop wanted to buy it from me.
we now live in nebr close to where my wife grew up and has a mother that is quit elderly so we are close to her.
the gun is in az with my mother. what do you guess the value of the gun to be without blueing and with the blueing? we are just curious.
we watch cash in the attic and i know one show some guy took off the original paint to an item and that item decreased dramatically. i hope thats not the case of the gun.
thank you for the advice about carrying the gun on the airline. i think i can handle the breakdown!

again, would you or somebody have any idea what this rifle might be valued at ?? As far as I know, it should still fire accurately, and is in excellent condition. Thank you for your interest.
