I have never shot smokeless powder in any of my original black powder firearms. I don't mind the extra time spent on cleanup from black powder. I enjoy any time spent with these guns in my hands weather its shooting or cleaning them.

I would not use a filler in any bottle neck cartridge. It can raise pressures dangerously. It did dangerously in a friends 33 winchester. Use 5744 if you must use smokeless. In our matches black powder has always won. And its proper. Ed

Just finished a review of the book, "Shooting Buffalo Rifles of the Old West" for the RSA journal. The author says he never shoots smokeless, and gives techniques on getting great performance out of black powder. Worth a read. Ed

Don't get me wrong I am, & make no claim to be, an expert on black powder cartridge rifles but by using what seems to be standard cleaning practices I get my BPCR rifles cleaned faster & easier that I do some of my more modern smokeless stuff. Granted the smokeles stuff doesnt leave much powder fouling but the copper fouling is much harder to remove than the black powder fouling is in the "old" ones. Of course lead deposits can be a bugger but proper lube with grease groove or use paper patch bullets will eliminate lead problems.
By the way I use GOEX Express Fg & FFg with STANDARD primers.
