Yep, you should see the shadow of the shoulder when viewed from the breech.

Diameter at the breach should be considerably larger than ~.40 is another way. I don't know but I'd say it was uncommon but not rare. Seen more in the #3 rifles I think.

A chamber cast is always advised. It may be stamped one thing but altered somewhere down the line.

Order you some Cerrosafe from Brownells or Midway and go by the directions. There are some how to posted on YouTube as well. A paper towel or rag works fine.

If you simply want to know wether it is straight or bottleneck, simply make a wad of rag or paper toweling and push it through with a rod. You should feel a bottleneck.

You can make a quick and dirty chamber cast with wax. Doesn't hold up well, but is good for a quick check of what you have there.
