Today i acquired what i think is a pretty rare 7600. it is a NIB 35 whelen factory carbine in walnut and blue. i had heard about these guns and heard that they were commissioned by a firm in canada several years ago. no idea how many but i plan on trying to find out. it is a nice specimen with real nice wood and some unusual characteristics. i compared it to my grice special 35 remington carbine and as you can see from the pics it is different. first it has a straight pistol grip stock with no high comb and different checkering pattern and is about 1" longer than the grice stock. the checkering on the forearm is the same as the grice gun. second it has a grip cap with the fancy remington logo on it. i have attached some pics. rollmarks are all the same and there is no barrel code but the box end has LW so if that corresponds to a barrel code it would be feb 2002. if anyone knows for sure or can decipher it from the serial number on the box end, let me know. i saw one other mentioned briefly on here some time back but there was no info on it. any info or questions appreciated.
I actually seen a new one today along with matching 7400. The guy was asking 575.00 each for the guns and they were on the table on the last day and not sold.
the whelen rifles were a cataloged item but not the carbines from what i can tell. i found 2 or 3 other mentions of 7600 whelen carbines on the 'net. 2 like mine from 2004 and 1 synthetic from 2009. mine is the only one i have found from 2002. i am thinking these carbines were made for export to europe or something. does anyone have any solid info on the carbine version?

i'm not worried about unburned powder and i doubt any deer or target will notice it either. i am 6' 1" and 210 and this gun fits me great. if my other carbines are any indication, this one will shoot great. i will find out this weekend.
was that in missouri i guess? if i saw another 7600 whelen factory carbine for $575 i would snatch it up. thats pretty close to what i paid and they are a slick gun. if you were in the mood to make a few bucks i'll bet you could turn that $575 into $800 or more pretty quick. lots of guys like me love the remington pump carbines, especially the rare ones like this.
The guns were at a fairly large show. I would guess probably 1500-2000 guest. They were both there at the end of the show for asking price of $575 and were still there up to the last 1/2 hour. I think it would be a silly gamble for me.
