hi, i recently bought nov 65 model 760 carbine in 30/06 and it shoots great but the action is tight right at the back end of the pump cycle. it ejects and loads ok but it is no where near as smooth as my other 760's. does anyone have any idea what i can look for to fix this?
thanks

Re: 760 stiff action
thanks ken. how hard is it to remove the trigger assembly? i've never done it on a 760 before.

Re: 760 stiff action
thanks ken. mine is just hard at the back end of the pump so maybe its dirt as you said. i will pull the TA tonight and have a look. i like this one a lot and hope to get it slickened up like my others. if it looks like a problem i'll take it to a gunsmith i know.

Re: 760 stiff action
hi ken, i pulled the TG and found the grooves for the slide rails all full of rusty crud. i also found an old peice of patch jammed in by the hammer. i thoroughly cleaned it and it now is as smooth as butter as it should be. thanks for the help. now i am getting ready to order a bushnell elite 3200 2-7x32 and some tally low mounts for it. it has see-throughs and a cheap 3-9 on it now and even with that it shoots one holers at 40 yards. can't wait to get it all set up and dialed in for next season in fulton county.
i do have a 141r in 32. we corresponded about it and you mentioned it in your book. i had a different screen name on here before but it got screwed up or deleted somehow so i re-registered under rem141r, which is my favorite gun of all. i now have carbines in all the remington pump models. 7600 35, 7615 223, 760 30/06, 141r 32, and three 14R's 35 30 and 30. i am still on the lookout for other 141R's but they are rare as hens teeth as you well know.
thanks again and happy holidays
Roger

Re: 760 stiff action
this gun is not on its last legs. it looks very clean other than the crud inside the action bar grooves. and it always amazes me that people go on internet sights and give unsolicited, uninformed, elitest opinions. thanks for telling me that a gun will last several lifetimes if taken care of properly. i never knew that.
