Looking for some help

Post by Charger74 »

Hi everyone, new member looking for some help.

I recently received from my grandfather a Remington Rifle and unfortunately I not certain about the model number due to the fact that when they mounted the rifle scope they drilled out part of the model number. Here is what I do know about the rifle.

Bolt action, 300 win. mag caliber.
Number below where the model number is: 4197802
I did not notice any other markings on the barrel, but since finding this site I know where to look for some more.

Remington thinks it maybe a 700 or 721. Any other way to know for certain??

Thanks a bunch.

Are there any markings on the side of the action. Both guns you mentioned shoulda have been drilled and tapped at the factory. 300 win mag sounds like a 700 to me.

Most are pretty worn out, and most appear to be numbers in circles or boxes but those appear on the bottom on the reciever. I don't really see any other marking on the side of the reciever. One thing about the number on top where they drilled out. What is left is the following: mod(big hole)03-A(big hole).

Maybe this helps abit.

Thanks

Remington model O3-A3 if so it's been modified. Search gunbroker.com and look for similar pictures or post a picture of yours. It will be easier.

Thanks to both you. I looked up that model and I do believe it is an 03-A3. I found a couple on gunbroker.com that are sport models and that is exactly what I have.
