Model 11 Identification Help

Post by rhinomonkey »

Hello I am new here so please be kind as I don't know the proper protocol. First off I don't care what my shotgun is worth, you guys probably get that question a lot.

I have what I believe to be a old Model 11 shotgun. The gun belonged to my great grandfather. I am certain the gun is older than at least 1957 as my father shot it when he was 10.

I looked at the pages to identify manuf. Date but coulded figure it out. Can any one help me. The following markings are on the gun:

Barrel LT side - MOD
Barrel BOT side - MOD. D70
Barrel RT side - RP (inside an oval)
Serial# - 980XX

The serial num matches the barrel and receiver so I assume the shotgun has the original barrel.

My father mentioned something that he believed it was a modified barrel by Remington. He claims that when he was younger he recalls the shotgun was used for competative trap and skeet matches.

Can anyone help identify the year by the markings?

My father had the gun smith refurbish it for my grandfather in 1974 and I would like to do the same again for my father.

What is the company name on your gun? Remington Arms Co. introduced their 12-gauge, five-shot, John M. Browning designed, "Remington Autoloading Gun" in 1905. The company name was changed to Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. in 1911. Shortly after that Rem-UMC began calling that gun the Model No. 11. In 1920 the company name changed again to Remington Arms Co., Inc.

A Remington Autoloading Gun in the 980xx serial number range would be from 1910.
