I have just been given a model 12 s/n789794

I would like to know what year it was made.

Also it says 22 rem special. What modern 22 does this shoot?

It was made near 1930. The exact month and year can be found on the barrel code sticky on the RSA home page.

The Rem Special is the same cartridge as the Winchester 22 WRF (NOT 22 MAG) that is still being made.
