1879/1882 Remington-Lee Trial Rifle

Post by Ken Hill »

I picked up the rifle yesterday that a friend had. It's serial number 9734 with the US markings on the receiver and the butt plate. The receiver, bolt and barrel have the DFC stamp.

It appears to have been sporterized and has a schnabel type front on the stock extending perhaps 3" past the barrel band. The bbl is about 22". I've field stripped it and cleaned the 100+ years of crud from it, polished under the extractor etc.. It functions flawlessly and I want to shoot it. There has been some discussion about using moderate modern 45-70 ammo or cowboy loads I would appreciate ideas. I have some old Remington Kleanbore that is probably more collectible that usefull but it's supposed to be loaded to black powder levels.

I'd appreciate any ideas and comments. I am new to this forum and mainly collect Colt 1911 pistols. This Remington Lee is something else though. Well made and its a keeper. /Ken
