Whats the Heaviest Remington # 1 Sporter you know of
The 1875 catalog says available up to 15 lbs. But were there any? Any heavyweights in Marcot's book?
Re: Whats the Heaviest Remington # 1 Sporter you know of
I know of 2 that weigh around 18#. One is in Roys book. A 45 2 4/10 target rifle with a false muzzle. The other is a 44 2 7/16 bench rifle. Unfortunately someone took off the target sights, put on opens and now call it a buffalo gun. But it is clearly marked under barrel VW which means vernier rear and windguage front. I know of 2 44-77 rifles which weigh between 14 and 15 pounds. They all 4 have 34 inch barrels. The 44-77's look like they were used on the frontier. Possibly on buffalo. Roy shows some others which will go over 12#. Ed
