During the early 1960's Remington Arms had both the models 870 and 1100 trap guns with stocks and forends of an almost white color probably maple. I would like to know what these models were and if anyone has either or both of these for sale.
They may have done a special run for someone, or perhaps you saw a set that someone restocked, but I have never seen or heard of anything like that from Remington. Back when their Custom Shop was is full swing an individual could get almost whatever they wanted to pay for, so I am not saying it was an impossibility that they built such a gun. I have seen a Model 700 with a Holly stock (who knew Holly got big enough), and it looked like Ivory. The standard Skeet and Trap guns, and the B, D, and F upgrades, all wore walnut as a matter of course.

You are correct, that Remington produced the Model 870-SX (skeet), TX (trap), and ASX (field). They had what Remington called "Sun-Grain" wood. Roy Marcot in the book Remington " America's Oldest Gunmaker", states it was introduced in 1959. Other sources indicate '59-'61. I don't know about the M-1100, since it wasn't introduced until 1963. I presume the wood was maple.
I don't recall ever seeing an 870, but I have a Model-58 ADX. date coded 9/61.
Thats as much as I know.
I have heard of "Sun Grain", but I have never even seen a black and white picture that I can remember. If anyone has a pic I sure would like them to post it so I can see one.

Thank you for your reply.I have learned that as you indicated it was called "Sun Grain" and it was introduced in 1959.
We presume the wood was maple. The question now is where would I find one?.
