removing remington 1100 grip cap - anyone know how to do it?

I am refinishing my 1100 wood in an oil finish. The R logoed grip cap got ruined up in the stripping process (as I knew it would) - I have the correct R logoed replacement
grip cap. What's the best way to remove the origional cap? Any advice would be appreciated.

I know the white diamond caps, but not the script 'R' logo, sorry.

I am about to refinish an 11-87 and am wondering the same thing.
