Hello! I'm new around here and hope that I get to participate in some good conversations...
I spend some time over on rimfirecentral but, thought this might be the place to come with a true Remington question.
I have a friend who has a Model 12C that he thinks may be a 12C NRA.
Did Remington mark all of the 12C NRA as such on the flat or were some only marked 12C?
If anyone has any way of proving the rifles identity I'd love to hear from you. Even photos would be helpful.
I'll be posting a photo or two of my friends rifle when I get over his place to take a couple of shots of it...
Thanks!
Remington 12C NRA information request
Re: Remington 12C NRA information request
The NRAs are so stamped on the barrel. It sounds like a 12-C; maybe with a tang sight added.
Re: Remington 12C NRA information request
What is curious about the rifle is that not only does it have a Lyman Tang sight, fold down target sight front, it also has the front sling swivel and a flat spot on the buttstock that one would think would be where a larger rear sight might fold down onto...
Re: Remington 12C NRA information request
Sounds like changes made by a serious shooter.
Re: Remington 12C NRA information request
I think your right I just got off the phone with my friend to confirm one last thing...
The rifle DOES have a rear sight installed besides the Lyman #2 tang mounted aperture sight.
Thanks for all the help... Nothing worse than representing a rifle as something other than it actually is...

Dear Mr. Blackman,
The Model 12C was introduced on October of 1917. It was designed for NRA sponsored small bore rifle matches. It came with a Lyman elevating tang peep rear sight and a windage adjustable Lyman front sight. They have no dovetail cut in the barrel for a conventional rear sight, and they were advertised as for "long rifle only", but the barrels are all stamped short, long or long rifle. The rifle was furnished with a leather sling. It was not until 1924 that the factory began stamping NRA TARGET on the left side of the receiver as well as on the barrel.

Read Rem's comments closely. In 1924 they stamped NRA Target on the receiver. Before that it was stamped on the barrel.

Re: Remington 12C NRA information request
Agreed, besides that the most definitive thing they said goes right along with what you told me. That is that it has a non-dovetailed barrel.
Thanks again John!
