1966 Remington 1100 20 Gauge Value? Rare? Run of the mill?

Post by tgittin2 »

A friend of mine has decided to get rid of a Remington 1100 20 gauge and asked me if I could help sell it for her. Serial # is in the 167000x range which according to Remington means this gun was made in 1966. No rib. Modified choke. Small amount of surface rust on exterior that looks like it could be buffed away fairly easily with steel wool.

Any advice would be appreciated. Does this gun command a premium because of its early manufacture date or is it run of the mill? What sort of price range would be reasonable? I've looked around at the various auction sites and the prices seem to vary quite a bit. A pawn shop offered $150 bucks for it. (At that price, I'd buy it myself.) The gun valuation book on Amazon costs $45 bucks. Is there a better way to do this?

Check out this link:

You (probably) won't get anyone to give you values on the forum as they can vary greatly on condition.......and on the forum, they aren't able to be visually checked for condition.

From your description, I'd guess closer to "run of the mill". The lack of a vent rib and the surface rust will detract from the value. But, yeah, it's definitely worth more than $150.

Good luck.

Thank you. I went to the blue book site and paid $5 for their opinion. (I didn't know you could pay for just one gun.) Most of the info is freely available on the internet and probably a lot of it came from this site.

They did give some values:

100% 98% 95% 90% 80% 70% 60%
$350 $295 $265 $225 $200 $185 $170

Do these seem reasonable or a bit low overall?

Depends on if a person is buying or selling.......
I haven't run across any 1100's in the local gun shops for some time, but doing some brief searches just now.......those prices seem a bit low to me.

Those prices seem a bit low because the standard reciever 20 gauges, which the subject gun certainly is, command a bit of a premium from target shooters who like the extra weight in their fight against recoil. Extra barrels really come high.
What could have happened... did.
