Re-Barreling a Rolling Block (Rem 1 1/2)

Post by gunner312 »

I am in the process of re-barreling and building 2 Remington Rolling Block 1 1/2 action Rifles (one for me and one for my Son). They will have a .45-90 1/2 Octagon 1/2 round Barrel.

I need to find out about the extractor cuts. One reciever has a rotary extractor and the other a sliding(?) extractor.

I have the barrels screwed in and timed up but I don't have dimensions for the extractor cuts.

Any help out there?

Rare birds but they are your rifles....sorry just the preservationist in me.

I'd call Dave Higginbotham at Lone Star and seek his advice.

Well, I started with a couple of stripped actions and gradually gathered the parts.

I ended up with six recievers and a bunch odd parts from which I'll make 2 rifles.

I really don't think they are so rare.

Well if they are really #1 1/2 Rolling Blocks they are not only rare, but a fairly poor choice to use as a basis for that caliber. The #1 1/2 was never chambered in anything but pistol calibers up to .44-40, and I would hesitate to chamber one in .45-90! Regardless of collector values.

The large military actions are the #1 or the #5. These are as you say, extremely common, and excellent choices for what you have planned!
