Questions About My 1 Year Olds Remington RB Number 4 .22

Post by ssnfa »

Thanks for the forum, I have had a great time reading it!

I have some questions about a Remington Rolling Block Number 4 I bought this weekend and intend to give to my son for his first birthday (and then put in the safe until he is grown!!). I bought this from a friend who had two identical ones. He says he and his brother bought them at the same time decades ago. It is a late take down with the serial number 326190.

Here are my questions:

1. In order for the rolling block to come down you have to pull the hammer past full cock. Is that normal?

2. The hammer will fall if the trigger is pulled at the "safety notch" is that normal and if not what might be the problem?

3. The receiver on this gun isn't case colored like many others I see and the stock seems pretty shiney. Has the gun been refinised?

4. About when was this gun made?

5. For insurance reasons, what should I list the value at?

Anyway, any help would be appreciated and I can't wait until my boy is old enough to appreciate it. It won't be his first rifle (probably a cricket) but hopefully it will be one of his favorites.
