"Reformado" sling

Post by pastmaster »

I have purchased an 1871/89 "Reformado" RB (1879). What would be the correct sling for this rifle, and can they be found? Thanks for any leads.

I don't have a photo, but on my RB I use a Swedish Mauser Sling, I think a model 94. It is long enough for my Model 5, and it appears period. You would have to be quite knowledgeable to identify it as wrong.
When I was looking, no one could tell me what the definitive RB sling looked like. Some said a Krag, Springfield, and even a musket sling from the Civil War.

Uncle,

Since these rifles were used by the Spanish in Cuba in 1898, do you think some sort of period Spanish sling would be proper also? I'm still looking for the Swede sling with no luck. Doesn't that one have some sort of metal clip at the end?

Also, I'm trying to find the correct cleaning rod for this rifle. It came with what I describe as an 1891 Argentine rod. I have been in contact with the Rolling Block parts site with no luck.

Some do come with a clip. I removed it. Regardimg the rod, try Rollingblockparts.com
