721, 722, and 700 started in 1947 IMO

Post by Rem725 »

I do not consider the Model 700 as being "introduced" in 1962. There is so little difference between the 700s and the Models 721 and 722. I consider the Remington Models 721, 722, and 700 as "introduced" in 1947, and continue to this day with some cosmetic changes and some engineering changes and a name change along the way. Some good, some not. There are equal or more changes between 700 variations today than the 1962 changes. I do consider the pre 62 Remingtons better. Except maybe in looks. The standard stock was rather plain, especially the very early low combs.

I've had similar thoughts over the years, too.

A person could also make a similar case for the various 600/660 series' and the model 7's. Same basic action, but mostly cosmetic changes. And, they're essentially modified versions of the short-action 700's/722's.

Mike Walker and Homer Young did a good job.
