Looking for Info

I have inherited a Remington shotgun. It is a pump gun and looks similar to an 870. It is marked on the right hand side of the receiver with large letters that read US 8. Other then the serial number I cannot find any other markings. Is this something that was sold to the gov? I can't find any info on this shotgun. Thanks for any help.

You sure the's an 8 and not something that looks like a little bomb?

Sounds like a model 31.
