870 barrel question

i just saw an early 870 in 16guage with a matted rib on the bbl. i do not recall seeing a matted rib before, just the plain bbl or a vent rib one. was that an early option or aftermarket? thanks tmc

REMINGTON CAME BACK OUT WITH THE 16 GAUGE 870.I BOUGHT A NEW ONE WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT,WHICH I DONT HAVE NOW.MINE WAS A WINGMASTER AND AT THAT TIME THEY WERE AVAILABLE IN THE 870 EXSPRESS WHICH HAD THE MATTE FINNISH.NOW I THINK YOU CANE ONLY GET THE 16 GAUGE 870 WINGMASTER ONLY.THE EXSPESS BARRELL COULD BE WHAT YOU SEEN.

The matted rib was an option on the early 870s. I do not know when they phased them out, but by 1963 when the 1100 came along the options had been reduced to plain or vent rib as far as I am aware.
