I have a low production Model 11-48, serial # 5500XXX, in 16 guage, with barrel code KWW 3, and the shotgun has a Polychoke installed on a barrel marked "FULL". I realize that the "3" in the barrel code means that the shotgun went back to Remington for something, and I am thinking that Remington might have installed the Polychoke at that time. My question is, have they or would they have installed the Polychoke at the factory when it was returned per the original owners request?
Your help would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Question: 11-48 with Polychoke
Re: Question: 11-48 with Polychoke
It may have come with the PolyChoke originally. Jay Huber
Re: Question: 11-48 with Polychoke
Unscrew the PolyChoke collar all the way and see if the choke petals are machined integral with the barrel, rather than soldered on as a unit.
What could have happened... did.
Re: Question: 11-48 with Polychoke
Unfortunately, it's the type that is soldered on. Could it still be original to the shotgun with the barrel marked "Full"?
Thanks for the information,
I'm knew to this site, and I learning alot about the finer points of owning serveral older Remingtons, both rifles and shotguns.
Once again, Thank you

Re: Question: 11-48 with Polychoke
If the barrel has a choke designation marked on it, then there is no way the PolyChoke is original. I do not know for sure, but if the Poly is soldered on, I do not believe that installation was performed by Remington either. Some one else may have more info. I have much more experience removing variable choke devices.

Re: Question: 11-48 with Polychoke
I don't have any idea if Remington installed choke devices per customer orders, I wished that it wasn't there, as the shotgun is in really good shape, and that the shotgun was in the original condition as shipped.

Re: Question: 11-48 with Polychoke
Remington did sell shotguns with poly choke ON Them and advertised as such. Buy a new barrel if you want to get rid of the Poly. That's what did with my Model 11 with factory installed Poly. I think the Virginian has a good point. Jay Huber
Re: Question: 11-48 with Polychoke
Thank you for the information.
That pretty much answers my question.
I wished the Polychoke wasn't there, but I'll live with it. This shotgun is in really good condition for such a low serial number, but then again, if it were completely original, I probably wouldn't use it. It would become a safe queen, and would become lonely.
Once again, thank you for all your help.
