Folks - how do you know which RB action you have? Is there a way to determine if you have a 1, 2, 3, etc.? The only marking on my action is the letter "G" on the top near the barrel. Any help would be appreciated.

Identifying a RB action - how do you do it?
Re: Identifying a RB action - how do you do it?
According to Frank de Haas in his "Single Shot Rifles and Actions" the No 1 action is 1.312" thick with side walls .290" thick. The No 1 1/2 action has 1.140" and .172" respectively. The No 2 is much smaller and has a curved junction between the rear of the receiver and the butt stock. The No 4 is smaller still with the junction being straight. The No 4 was chambered for rimfire cartridges only. Black powder military actions were, for the most part, No 1's; a very few were No 1 1/2's. The smokeless powder 7mm and 8mm Lebel are No 1's.

The #1 1/2 action is not stepped on the side like a #1 Sporting action, so the measurement is the same top to bottom.
