Sportsman Model 11 Grade?

Post by gonzokiwi »

hello, I have a Sportsman model 11 12 gauge which dates from 1940. The engraving on the side is done in gold featuring a duck on one side and a phesant on the other. Does anyone know what or if this is a different model 11. Thanks.

"The Sportsman" was a three-shot version of the 5-shot Model 11, introduced first in 20-gauge. From introduction until about 1937, "The Sportsman" had a roll-stamped receiver with three birds on each side. About 1937 Remington reduced this to one bird on each side and began putting the roll-stamping on Model 11 receivers as well as "The Sportsman." For many years kits were available to fill this roll-stamping on shotgun receivers with a gold wash. It wasn't done at the Remington factory.
