Re: model 11-48 engraved
I don't know of any of the factory engraved D or F grades having engraving going anywhere near that far up the barrel. Just from what you wrote, I'm thinking post WW-II occupation force GI getting a plain grade American gun engraved while stationed in Japan. We'd need some good pictures to really tell you anything definate.
Re: model 11-48 engraved
I am researching an 11-48 that I received from my father’s collection. He has been gone for many years so I can't ask him about it. Dad was a pilot stationed in Japan at the end of the war and again in the late 50s. The engraving on this gun sounds just like what is described in the other post. The barrel is engraved for about 6 inches. Both sides of the receiver, top and trigger guard are engraved and there is also some gold. The bolt and carrier are also jeweled. It seems a shame that the wood is not higher quality. Can anyone tell from the pictures, where or even who may have done the work on this gun? I also have 20 gauge that just has the trigger guard, bolt and carrier done.
