Remington Rolling Block

Post by Poacher »

I am in the same predicament as Bob from Georgia, Posted June 5, 2003. I have just about the same gun as he does. Brass front sight, no rear sight. Barrel 30 5/8" to the receiver. On the tang E. Remington & Son, Ilion, N.Y. Pat. May 3, 1864, May 7, June 11, and a bunch more ending in March 16th, 1874. Metal butt plate. Good wood, barrel old rust or the damascus is filled with grime (does not come off on your hand). Bore dia is .475, chamber is .632. depth of chamber to ridge is 2.420". Any help would be appreciated, and possible value of gun. Thanks

If you would email me clear images of your rifle and tell me the serial number(s) and the location of each, I might be able to help you ID this gun.

I would like to thank Roy in his research for the Remington in question. It is a shotgun and is a 20 gauge. I was told that is all they made in the rolling block. Again, thanks Roy

Saw your info, do you think your gun is able to shoot modern shotgun shells in it?

Rolling Block Shotgun

Post by tjack »

decthlete,

I'm sure that all depends on the condition of the gun PLUS it no doubt has a short chamber (not for it's era but certainly for ours). I bought a Swedish (Husqvarna) Rolling Block 16 ga shotgun many years ago. It is in excellent condition. I lengthened the chamber for 2 3/4" shells and have been taking turkeys with it since.
