The REP in the oval is "Remington Explosive Proof." From the old factory ledger a 16- or 20-gauge Model 31 in the 5200xx range would be a June 1937 gun. The RRP doesn't make any sense to me. R is the code for November or RR was 1946. P was the code for June. PRR would be June 1946, but RRP doesn't fit the barrel date code structure. A gun from 1937 would be the earlier version Model 31 with the small trigger assembly. In 1941 they introduced the 1941 version with the trigger group that extends a bit back into the stock giving a better grip to trigger relationship, and also a much bigger trigger guard better for cold weather hunting with a glove on.
This 1937 Remington Skeet Gun brochure shows a Model 31 with the early style trigger group --
These are 1941 version Model 31s
