700 BDL without sights?

Post by WFR »

I found a 700 BDL in .308 that does not have open sights.
The date code shows a production date of 6/85.
I cannot find any info on this and I thought all BDL's had open sights.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!

In and around 1984ish, Remington stopped putting sites on the short action 700's, both BDL and ADL. Seems odd, but there must have been a reason!?

I picked it up over the weekend and will post pictures after I clean it up.
It is indeed a BDL with a 22" standard barrel without sights in .308.
Thanks for your reply as it eased my mind by correctly identifying it before purchase!

It cleaned up really good.
I bought it from the original owner who put less than a box through it and killed 2 deer with it.
The Scope is a Leupold Vari-X II 3-9X40. He bought it used and it has some dings & scratches on it but we'll see how it shoots.
The trigger, stock, etc are all as it left the factory 25 years ago. There seems to be a pressure point almost at the forend just like my Mtn Rifle has.
I think it's going to be around for another 25 years as I don't plan on getting rid of it. I looked at a new CDL in the store the other day for $750 on sale. The workanship and finish doesn't hold a candle to the older guns.

Ignore the fingerprints as I had just waxed the stock. Very nice wood!
