Opinions on a Model 12A

Post by M12 »

I haven't taken possession yet, but I just bought a 1931 Model 12A online and would appreciate opinions from any experts here. Although I see no signs of the metal having been refinished It looks almost new, the screws and magazine plug show no wear and very little wear on the action bar.

I haven't seen a picture of another M12 with wood as beautiful as this, is it likely stock has been replaced? Other than at least one land at the muzzle that looks worn (I hope it doesn't affect the accuracy too much) the rest of the bore looks almost new, so I think it's been relined. It cost $525, I know it has no collection value, but I think should hold its value as a shooter.

I think it has been restocked, if reblued it was well done. Whoever did the work did good work, very little evidence of changes made. Some of this may have been from having a nice rifle in great shape to start with.

I agree, about the stock, but there's no sign of any metal having been polished. If it was reblued, it's the best job I've ever seen.

The sights, both front and rear, show a lot of signs of blue wear. The buttplate screws show wear as well as a couple of other parts. The receiver has almost too much blueing when compared to the worn areas. I'm just having trouble reconciling the discrepancy. But I also can't see bluing some parts and not others.
