2 remington side cock shotguns

Post by coastie »

I just picked up 2 Remington shotguns. I believe they are a #3 and a #9. I stole a couple of parts from the 3 to get the 9 working. I have a few questions. Is there manual or schematic available on these? Where can I find parts? For the #3 I need a 12 ga forend, a trigger spring, firing pin spring and the Y shaped piece that connects the top lever to the barrel release. Can these 2 shotguns shoot modern smokeless ammo safely? I notice on the 20 ga #9 I have to cock the shotgun before I can open the breech. Is that normal or correct? Any other info avail able on these anywhere? Thanks.

You'll probably have to make any parts. As for loads, if it were me, I'd reload low pressure loads [ under 7000psi]. Although Remingtons were proof tested for nitro powders I don't believe the early nitro loads were any higher than black powder loads. I shoot every week Remington and Parker SxS's with damascus barrels, but use my low pressure loads. Not out of fear of blowing the barrels, but to show the old guns some respect and not to shoot them loose. Good luck with your new guns. Paul
