Rider Shotgun?

Post by Researcher »

Why are the Remington Arms Co. break-action single barrel shotguns No. 3 and No. 9 referred to as "Rider" all over the internet? Joseph Rider's last patent assigned to E. Remington & Sons was his Patent No, 74,428 granted Feb. 11, 1868. It appears to me that the No. 3 was designed by R.C. Fay, covered by his Patent No. 528,526 granted Oct 30, 1894, and assigned to Remington Arms Co., one of the three dates stamped on the left side of No. 9 frames --

The other two dates refer to patents for an ejector mechanism which the No. 9 got -- Patent No. 730,862 granted June 16, 1903, to C.W. Bartholmes and assigned to Remington arms Co. and Patent No. 763,458 granted June 16, 1904, to E. Beach and assigned to Remington arms Co.
