Rolling Block ID and sight questions
This rolling block followed me home a few weeks ago. I assume it is a #5. It’s chambered in 7mm and the receiver, barrel and what remains of the stock are in pretty decent condition. I’ve shot about 25 rounds through it with no drama, however I can’t hit the broad side of a barn with it. I can’t seem to focus on the front and rear sights together. The notch in the rear is so small, how did somebody pick up a target quickly? The other alternative is that my eye glass prescription doesn’t work for these sights. That said, I have other old rifles that I can shoot well. I would like to restify the gun but not if it’s not accurate or accurate for me

Re: Rolling Block ID and sight questions
The original front sight was a blade that was thinner and easier to line up in that rear notch. You might try removing the front blade and use a file to make it ore of a knife edge shape to work better.
These military rifles with the rear sight located so far away from the shooter's eye are really tough to ever get a good sight picture. The solution will require modifying this rifle, and that's not always something owners want to do. Either a second sight back farther on the barrel, or a tang sight. Both will make it shoot easier, but ruin any collector value. I'd try thinning the front blade first and see if it makes it better.

Re: Rolling Block ID and sight questions
These were military rifles, not target rifles, so pretty tough to really get target type accuracy. But a thinner front blade will help get it more like it was when it was new.
