It's hard to know if and what your question may be.
You say you're curious about "marks" but post a picture of a buttstock.

Here's the link to the barrel codes. My guess about the "VERY large 7" is that it's an assembly or inspector's mark. To my knowledge, nobody has been able to find out or compile a list of who the inspectors were or which codes they used. The only one I've gathered from previous postings, is that a "3" indicates that the firearm was returned to the factory for repairs or whatever.

Let ME try again......

In that date code link, there's a part that says this:

Click this ^
Don't try to read this ->
It's just a thumb image

Click on the brown lettering to see a larger image.

For what it's worth, I just went through my 721s and 722s and I also have several that have "over-sized" numbers (in the same place as yours). The hearts and other symbols and numbers (other than the letter date codes) were inspector stamps.

I just went through a bunch of my 700s, too. A number of them also have over-sized numbers in that area and various symbols looking like a spade (playing card), something that looks like a megaphone and other interesting shapes.

By the way, I also happen to have a 26" barreled .244 from July of '55 - "O B".
