I was talking to a dealer about Remington's, when he asked me if I
have ever seen a Model 14 threaded for a suppressor (silencer).
I told him, I know Remington made Model 12 22's that way, but I've never
seen a center fire like that. Now I'm curious to know if anyone has seen
a Remington C. F. rifle with an original suppressor barrel?
Since the M-14 front sight base is machined into the barrel,I would think
it would be necessary to replace it. Of course I haven't seen the gun and
he didn't remember what the sight looked like.
I would like to hear any ones comments.
Thanks,
ChuckD
M-14 Question
Re: M-14 Question
On my database with information on over 1400 model 14s, I find 6 with threaded barrels. In the early part of the last century, silencers such as the Maxim, could be purchased. A quick look shows one on a 44-40, one on a 25, one on a 30, two on 32s, and one on a 35.

Re: M-14 Question
I should ad that the threads were milled back into the front of the front ramp on the barrel.........tom

Re: M-14 Question
Tom,
Thanks for the information. I've never run across one of these.
I tried to check it out in Ken's book, "Remington Model 14 & 141" but wouldn't you know, I can't find it.

Re: M-14 Question
I just chatted with Tom about this telling him that for years (when you could do so) I acquired rifles from Australia that were threaded. Suppressors are legal there, threaded barrels are common, they have been doing it for years, and your Model 14 "probably" resided "down under" at one time.
Interestingly they do a lot of threading to .22's and when selecting a Model 12 I would always make sure the barrel hadn't been threaded. In my stack of Model 14 barrels I know I have one that's threaded for an old "Maxim" suppressor because I checked it out.
The practice of using suppressors in Australia dates way back but like I told Tom the "threading" could have been done at any time even to date and while I doubt any of this was done at the factory, it is possible because Australia was a major importer of both Remington & Winchester rifles.
Regards!
