I’m having some difficulty determining the correct cartridge as a .38/55 fits a little to snug, and the hammer doesn’t want to fall, I’ve done a chamber casting but perhaps a .38/50 Ballard is it’s true chambering?? Thoughts?

I believe I have a Remington Rolling Block 1 1/2 Sporting Rifle. It apoears as though it has been modified from 31 rim fire to what I believe is 38/55. As noted in the picture, the hammer
