Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg
Hi Guys,
Long time member and lurker - First post but had to share this... I came across a rare one at the Wanenmacher show in Tulsa a couple of weeks ago. I found a model 721 in the back rack at a table full of non-Remingtons and reached for it to see if it was the usual 06 or .270. But it took a lot to stay composed when I saw that the barrel read .264 Win. Mag.! It was already going to go back to PA with me at that point - it was only a matter of how many Franklins I was going to need to part with to make it happen. I paid far less than a new 700 CDL would cost and walked all of 50 feet before a guy at another table asked to see it and offered me exactly twice what I'd just spent moments before. Unfortunately for him, he couldn't have written a check large enough that day. I'd been scouring gun shows for a LONG time looking for one of those!
Serial number 448160 was manufactured in September, 1961 (D H barrel code). It has the 24" stainless barrel, but is not marked as such. I only know for certain because there is one very small spot of blue missing about 1/8" in diameter that sort of flaked off and would not take any type of cold blue touch up at all. I assume that the ferous material that they plated the barrel with prior to blueing "left go" in that spot and exposed the stainless. The rest of the barrel and receiver are about 99.5% and all matches perfectly in color.
Now if I could only come up with that 721 in .280...
Thanks,
Chris

New to the board so I figured I would post my Model 725 serial #Just picked it up today and it looks like new. I had a 270 model 725 several years ago and let it get away so I bought another in 30-06 and it looks brand new. The serial # is 710xxx with A&F on the barrel which I believe puts it in March of 1959. I have long been a admirer of the 725.

Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg
Hi,
I am new to this forum. I have a few Remington firearms including a 1952 Wingmaster 20 ga. and a nice Remington 721 in 270 Winchester. I don't believe that it has been fired much since the Williams peep sight was installed because the front sight height had never been adjusted to match the Williams peep. The bore looks pretty much immaculate. I installed a Williams front fire sight to match the existing front sight height only to discover that it was was shooting 10 inches high at 50 yds. I got a taller front sight and now it is were it should be. I am please to be a new member here.
My 721 info is: 32,9xx KTT 5/48

Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg
First post for me. Great site. Hope my question is considered relative to this thread. I have an engraved 722 ser#266XXX. Can someone decode the date? I am told the engraving is Japanese but has REP stamped on the barrel. Any opinions as to if this is factory engraving and maybe what it is worth? Cal. 300 savage. Thanks. Hoping pic uploaded OK.

Sorry about the bad pics. I took some more but they are not much better. Thanks for the dating. This is quite an astonishing gun. Did they really use gold inlay? Still would like some opinions on its worth and whether it is factory or Japanese engraving/inlay. I don't know what else to do to get better pics. thanks

Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg
Hey everybody, first time poster here. I have a model 722 .244 manufactured in May 1956. I got it from my grandfather in the mid '60s. How do I determine the model letter? I'm guessing it's either a D or F, but what differentiates the two? Also, the pictures clearly show it needs some work. Where should I look to have it reblued? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Can you explain the difference between a 722D and 722F?Rem725 wrote:I had to look in my papers for all this

722 D Peerless - 1949-1959
722 F Premier - 1949-1959
722 ADL - 1955-1959
722 BDL - 1955-1959
"A" standard grade, most common, no checkering,
"B" special wood and checkering
"AC" standard with checkering
"D&F" pretty darn fancy wood and engraving
ADL = A "deluxe" replaces regular A, no big deal
BDL = B deluxe
All these are about the stock (select wood, checkering, swivels) except the engraved D&F. The metalwork is basically the same on all these letters.
High comb stocks were an option, but not designated in the letters used. I have never seen a high comb, very few checkered 721 and 2's. Never an engraved.
I have owned a 725 stock what must have been a fancy grade maybe even D or F. The stock was shaped, checkered and equiped normally but the wood was exceptionally figured and way different from the standard 725 wood. And it was on a regular 725 270 metalwork.
Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg
No one has any information on the 722D and 722F?
Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg
Yours hints of after market all the way. I believe the side of the receiver would have a mark added like a "D" after the model number ( MODEL 721 D)
The stock reeks aftermarket. I think the receiver would have engraving too. One curious thing - the barrel boss does not show a dovetail cut for the sight. Was this filled with a blank?

The rifle is at the smiths now being reblued, so I'm not positive about whether or not there is a blank. It has a Weaver scope, so the mount is screwed down. Do you think Remington would have any information about the engraving and checkering and the lack of a model letter?
Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg
I emailed Remington support, this was the reply from Danny:
"Letter designations are not always used and many grades are never marked on the firearm itself. The engraving is done very well. It does appear as though it could be a factory job, however there is no true way to confirm this with 100% certainty. It is very similar to the engraving patterns we use, but this is also one of the most copied designs in the industry. Your barrel date code puts the production date around May of 1956, so it is highly possible that it is all original."
So I guess the answer to my question regarding if the work is factory is a definite "maybe"!
